KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Royals signed fourth-round draft pick Tim Melville.
Melville, a right-handed pitcher from Wentzville, Mo., finished his senior year at Holt High School with an 8-1 record, a 2.56 ERA, and 89 strikeouts in 52 innings. He was 10-1 with a 0.89 ERA as a junior.
Many scouts considered Melville to have first-round talent, but he slipped to the fourth round because clubs thought he would be hard to sign.
The Royals still have until midnight to sign first-round pick Eric Hosmer, who is committed to Arizona State. The Royals selected Hosmer with the third-overall pick in this year’s amateur draft.
