ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals claimed minor league third baseman Brian Barden off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Memphis.
The 26-year-old Barden was on the Diamondbacks' opening-day roster for the first time in his career. He was 1-for-12 in eight games before being optioned to Triple-A Tucson in May. The Diamondbacks designated him for assignment on Aug. 3.
Barden hit .269 with two homers and 29 RBIs in 83 games at Tucson.
