HOUSTON (AP) -Astros outfielder Carlos Lee had surgery to repair his broken left little finger on Monday, the team announced.
Lee suffered multiple fractures in the finger when he was hit by a pitch Saturday at Cincinnati. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Tom Mehlhoff at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. Lee had pins inserted in his finger.
Lee was hitting .314 with 28 home runs and led the NL with 100 RBIs through 115 games.
Ty Wigginton, the Astros’ regular third baseman, was starting in left field as Houston opened a four-game series against San Francisco on Monday.
