CINCINNATI (AP) -The Cincinnati Reds placed rookie first baseman Joey Votto on the bereavement list Saturday.
At Votto’s request, the reason was not revealed.
The Reds purchased the contract of infielder Adam Rosales from Triple-A Louisville. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Marcus McBeth was designated for assignment.
Rosales is hitting .281 with 28 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs, 53 RBIs and six stolen bases at Louisville. During spring training, the 25-year-old hit .310 in 18 games for the Reds.
Votto is hitting .280 with 21 doubles, 14 HR and 53 RBIs. He ranks among the National League rookie leaders in most statistical categories. He is eligible to be reinstated from the bereavement list on Tuesday, and must be reinstated by next Saturday.
McBeth is 1-1 with a 6.20 ERA and two saves in 24 games, all in relief, for Louisville.
