PHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Phillies optioned left-hander J.A. Happ to Triple-A Lehigh Valley before Friday night’s game against Pittsburgh to make room for newly acquired Scott Eyre.
Happ made one appearance out of the bullpen after he was recalled on July 29. He had a 5.54 ERA in three games, two of them starts, in two separate stints with the club this season.
Eyre was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday for minor league pitcher Brian Schlitter. Eyre is 2-0 with a 7.15 ERA this season and will be used as the team’s situational left-hander out of the bullpen.
