MILWAUKEE (AP) -The New York Mets placed All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday night before their game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Beltran, 30, was scratched from last Wednesday's 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates after straining his left abdominal muscle during batting practice. He missed five games before going on the DL, with the move retroactive to July 25.
The center fielder, who is batting .263 with 19 homers and 62 RBIs, said he hurt the muscle on his left side taking a swing.
Catcher Paul Lo Duca continued to sit out with the strained right hamstring that forced him to leave the game during the Mets' 6-5 loss to the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.
Lo Duca was disappointed he was unable to play on Tuesday, especially with Mets pitcher Tom Glavine going for his 300th win.
``I really wanted to be out there,'' Lo Duca said.
Lo Duca said he was feeling ``way better'' than he was a few days ago, and lobbied Mets manager Willie Randolph to let him play. But Randolph said it didn't make sense to rush Lo Duca back into the lineup.
``I love Paulie's desire to play,'' Randolph said. ``He's always been that way. But we have to look at the big picture and do what's best for the team.''
