MIAMI (AP) -Injured Florida Marlins catcher Matt Treanor rejoined the team Tuesday after being examined by a specialist in Philadelphia and said he hopes to rejoin the lineup next week, although surgery will be necessary eventually.
Treanor, sidelined since July 8, said tests revealed small tears of three muscles in the pelvic area. He received a cortisone injection in a bid to delay surgery until after the season.
An operation would likely sideline Treanor four to six weeks. He’s batting .240 in 54 games.
