PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Pirates, now without Xavier Nady, recalled outfielder Steve Pearce from Triple-A Indianapolis and started him in right field against San Diego on Saturday night.
Pearce spent a week with the Pirates earlier this month and went 1-for-3 as a pinch-hitter. The 25-year-old rookie made his major league debut last September, hitting .294 with six RBIs in 23 games.
The right-handed hitting Pearce had a .258 average with 11 homers, 26 doubles and 54 RBIs in 93 games with Indianapolis.
The Pirates traded Nady, their starting right fielder, and left-handed reliever Damaso Marte to the Yankees in a six-player deal completed Saturday.
