CHICAGO (AP) -The Detroit Tigers recalled Tim Byrdak from the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday’s game against the White Sox.
Byrdak, a left-handed reliever, had been on the DL since June 27 with tendinitis in his elbow. He has a 3.66 ERA in 19 2-3 innings this season.
The Tigers optioned Virgil Vasquez back to Triple-A on Tuesday night after he started the second game of a doubleheader.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said reliever Fernando Rodney (right shoulder tendinitis) is headed to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday to begin his rehabilitation. Rodney went on the DL on June 24.
