CHICAGO (AP) -Bobby Jenks was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday and declared himself ready to return to the closer’s role for the Chicago White Sox.
Jenks went on the DL on July 9 with bursitis near his left (non-pitching) shoulder. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since June 29. He did throw in two minor league rehab games during the All-Star break.
“Hopefully, he is healthy. He threw a couple of games and he’s fine. Hopefully, he don’t have any setbacks and we are going to use him the way we’ve been using him the last couple of years,” manager Ozzie Guillen said.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Jenks is 2-0 with a 1.95 ERA and 18 saves in 21 chances this season.
“No pain,” Jenks said, adding that his rehab outings accomplished what he needed. “My biggest concern was making sure my control was there.,
To make on the 25-man roster for Jenks, the White Sox optioned right-handed pitcher D.J. Carassco to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.
