PHOENIX (AP) -The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right fielder Justin Upton on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained oblique muscle Friday night, making room for newly acquired first baseman Tony Clark.
The Diamondbacks sent minor league pitcher Evan Scribner to the San Diego Padres for Clark, who played three seasons for Arizona before signing with the Padres as a free agent.
He appeared in 70 games with San Diego, hitting .239 in 88 at-bats overall and .260 in 50 pinch-hitting appearances.
Upton’s move is retroactive to July 9. Upton is hitting .242 in 83 games with 11 homers and 31 RBIs.
