ST. LOUIS (AP) -St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said the team will activate reliever Randy Flores from the disabled list on Friday.
Flores was placed on the DL on June 26 for left ankle tendinitis. He is the seventh Cardinals pitcher to spend time on the DL this year. Flores (1-0) had walked six of the last 14 batters he faced before going on the DL.
He last pitched on June 26 when he threw one inning in an 8-7 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
No decision has been made on who will be sent out when Flores is activated.
Also, Adam Wainwright, out with a ruptured finger, threw long toss for the first time Wednesday. He threw 120 feet in a workout at Busch Stadium, La Russa said.
“He’s making progress. He had a nice 120-foot throw,” La Russa said.
