PHOENIX (AP) -The Arizona Diamondbacks signed left-hander Daniel Schlereth, the team’s No. 1 draft pick.
The team said Thursday that the 22-year-old former University of Arizona star will join Missoula, its Single-A team in the Pioneer League.
Schlereth’s father, Mark, played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos. He currently is an NFL analyst for ESPN.
Schlereth was picked by Oakland in the eighth round of last year’s draft but returned to school.
The D-backs made him this year’s 26th overall pick.
