MILWAUKEE (AP) -Colorado outfielder Ryan Spilborghs was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, one day after straining his left oblique in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Spilborghs was injured running the bases Tuesday night, and returned to Denver on Wednesday.
“He’s not going to do anything for a while,” Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said. “The doctors are going to take a look at him.”
Hurdle said there was no timetable for Spilborghs to return. In 72 games, he was batting .314 with six home runs and 33 RBI.
Outfielder Seth Smith, who was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday to make room for infielder Jayson Nix, was recalled to take Spilborghs’ spot on the roster.
Spilborghs is the 11th Colorado player to land on the disabled list this year, and the Rockies went into Wednesday night’s game 38-53 one season after winning the National League pennant.
