ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Rangers left fielder Frank Catalanotto was ejected in the first inning of Sunday’s game against Baltimore after questioning strikes called by home plate umpire Lance Barksdale.
Catalanotto was ejected after he took a called third strike and then turned to question the call, though he wasn’t demonstrative in any way and didn’t appear to yell at Barksdale. The mild-mannered Catalanotto seemed surprised when he realized he had been thrown out of the game.
Earlier in the at-bat, Catalanotto appeared to check his swing on a low pitch, but Barksdale called that a strike as well. Catalanotto also turned and looked at the umpire after that call.
Manager Ron Washington came out of the dugout to speak with Barksdale after Catalanotto was ejected, but the manager remained in the game.
In the top of the second inning, Jerry Hairston moved from second base to left field and Desi Relaford took over at second.
