BOSTON (AP) -The Boston Red Sox signed first-round draft pick Nick Hagadone, a left-hander, along with eight international free agents on Thursday.
Hagadone was selected by the Red Sox 55th overall after going 6-1 with 11 saves and a 2.77 ERA as a junior at Washington to earn all-Pac 10 first-team honors. He has been assigned to Class A Lowell of the New York-Penn League.
The Red Sox also signed 18-year-old outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin from Chinese Taipei and assigned him to the Gulf Coast Red Sox.
Agreeing to deals for 2008 were: third baseman Michael Almanzar, of the Dominican Republic; right-hander Justin Erasmus, of Australia; shortstop Rafael Espinosa, of the Dominican Republic; shortstop Joantoni Garcia, of Venezuela; outfielder Javier Gutierrez, of Venezuela; righty Roman Mendez of the Dominican Republic; and catcher Jesus Rojas, of Venezuela.
