OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Oakland recalled right-hander Shane Komine from Triple-A Sacramento before the Athletics’ game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
Komine, who was scheduled to start for the RiverCats, was with the A’s for a few days in June but did not make an appearance. He made two starts for the A’s last year.
“We need pitching,” A’s manager Bob Geren said of the move. Geren also indicated Komine would assume the long relief role.
To make room for Komine, the A’s optioned left-hander Ron Flores to Sacramento. Flores pitched 2 1-3 innings of relief during Monday night’s 11-7 loss to the Blue Jays.
Esteban Loaiza (spasms in right trapezius).
Komine is 3-9 with a 5.38 ERA in 16 starts with the RiverCats.
Flores was 0-2 with a 3.57 ERA in 17 relief appearances.
