ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -The Tampa Bay Rays placed closer Troy Percival on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring after beating the Boston Red Sox 3-1 on Tuesday night.
It is the second time Percival has gone on the DL this season due to a left hamstring injury. He missed 13 games from May 29-June 12 after getting hurt while pitching against the Texas Rangers on May 28.
Percival’s latest injury occured when he was running to back up a potential play at third base in the ninth inning of Rays’ 5-4 win over Boston on Monday. The right-hander is 1-0 with 19 saves and has a 3.54 ERA in 29 games this year.
Tampa Bay also recalled right-hander Mitch Talbot from Triple-A Durham. He went 7-6 with a 4.41 in 17 starts for the International League club.
