SEATTLE (AP) – Chicago Cubs outfielder Ryan Sweeney will be placed on the disabled list after breaking a rib on his left side crashing into an outfield wall.
Chicago made the announcement Sunday, a day after he was hurt, and said Sweeney will be held out of baseball activities for four-to-six weeks.
Sweeney is hitting .295 with four home runs and 15 RBIs since he came up from Triple-A Iowa on May 6.
Chicago is off Monday and are expected to put Sweeney on the DL before Tuesday’s game at Oakland.
Sweeney was injured in the third inning when he jumped and caught a fly ball by Kendrys Morales.
