BALTIMORE (AP) -Orioles right-hander Koji Uehara probably will be scratched from his scheduled start Sunday because of elbow soreness
Baltimore manager Dave Trembley said Friday that Uehara was examined by team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens. No structural damage was discovered in the pitcher’s right elbow, but Trembley said it was “highly doubtful” that Uehara would pitch against Washington on Sunday.
“He’s made a lot of improvement, but he hasn’t picked up a ball in three full days,” Trembley said.
Uehara last pitched Tuesday against the Florida Marlins. The Japanese rookie allowed one run in six innings and left after throwing only 76 pitches.
The 34-year-old Uehara has already spent time on the disabled list this season with a strained hamstring. The extent of his elbow injury was not clear; Trembley said Uehara would likely undergo further testing and might receive an MRI exam.
ndez was pulled after throwing four perfect innings Wednesday for Triple-A Norfolk.
Uehara is 2-4 with a 4.05 ERA. He won his first two starts, but has not earned a victory since April 13.
