ST. LOUIS (AP) -Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith and St. Louis third base coach Jose Oquendo will serve as managers for the All-Star Futures Game.
Smith, who spent most of his career with the Cardinals, will guide the U.S. team. Oquendo will lead the World squad.
The Futures Game brings together many of the top prospects in the minor leagues. It will be held July 12 at Busch Stadium, two days before the major league All-Star game.
Smith’s staff announced Wednesday includes Derek Botelho, Atlanta’s Triple-A pitching coach, and former big leaguer Terry Kennedy, San Diego’s Double-A manager.
Oquendo will be joined by Bobby Cuellar, Minnesota’s Triple-A pitching coach, and former Detroit manager Luis Pujols, Houston’s Double-A manager.
