NEW YORK (AP) The Mets have altered their pitching rotation for this week’s World Series rematch with Kansas City.
Bartolo Colon has been bumped up a day to start Tuesday night in the opener of the two-game series. Noah Syndergaard was pushed back one day and will start Wednesday afternoon.
New York announced the switch about five hours before Tuesday’s game, saying the change had previously been made but the team had not yet alerted the media.
The move means Syndergaard is now lined up to pitch during next week’s series at first-place Washington. If he had started Tuesday, he would not have been scheduled against the Nationals.
Syndergaard will take the mound Wednesday on six days of rest, two more than normal after throwing 115 pitches in a career-high 8 1/3 innings last Wednesday against Pittsburgh – one pitch short of his most in the majors.
