SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Edgar Renteria recorded his 2,000th career hit Tuesday night, beating out an infield single in the sixth inning of the Detroit Tigers’ game against the San Francisco Giants.
With one out in the inning, Renteria hit a sharp grounder against Jonathan Sanchez that Omar Vizquel fielded in the hole but had no play.
Renteria, a five-time All-Star and a two-time Gold Glove winner, is known for his game-winning hit that gave the 1997 World Series Championship to the Florida Marlins, managed by Jim Leyland, who is now with the Tigers.

Sanchez carried a no-hitter into the inning before Curtis Granderson singled to open the frame.
