 NEW YORK (AP) -Johnny Damon was scratched from the New York Yankees' starting lineup Friday night against the New York Mets because of an abdominal strain.
Damon had been slated to bat leadoff and be the designated hitter in the original lineup.
Center fielder Melky Cabrera was moved from the No. 8 spot to the top of the batting order, and Josh Phelps became the designated hitter and batted eighth.
Damon was available to enter as a sub, Yankees spokesman Ben Tuliebitz said.
