PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Right-hander Kyle Kendrick was sent back to Triple-A on Saturday, one day after he came up and took the loss in the Philadelphia Phillies’ 5-2 defeat against Boston.
Left-hander Sergio Escalona was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Kendrick’s spot. Escalona was 1-0 and didn’t allow a run in 2 1-3 innings in three appearances earlier this season.
Summoned from the minors because reliever Scott Eyre was placed on the disabled list Friday, Kendrick allowed three runs in the 13th inning against the Red Sox. He pitched a perfect 12th.
Kendrick won 21 games as a starter over the last two years, but lost a four-man competition for the No. 5 starter’s job in spring training.
