SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -Outfielder Ryan Sweeney was activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Oakland Athletics on Friday and was inserted into that night’s starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants.
The A’s optioned outfielder Travis Buck to Sacramento of the PCL.
“Ryan hit .300 when he got hurt,” A’s manager Bob Geren said. “He’s done a good job. Travis did a lot better when he came back up but with Jack (Cust) playing left field we had to make a roster move.”
Sweeney, out with a left toe contusion, hit .412 with a home run and five RBIs during an eight-game rehab assignment with the River Cats.
Buck is hitting .160 in 26 games with the A’s.
