DETROIT (AP) -The Detroit Tigers placed right-hander Jeremy Bonderman on the 15-day disabled list Friday just four days after activating him for his first start of the season.
The Tigers also recalled reliever Ryan Perry from Triple-A Toledo before their game at Pittsburgh. Perry was optioned to Detroit’s top farm club on Thursday.
Bonderman allowed six runs and eight hits over four-plus innings in Detroit’s 6-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox in the nightcap of Monday’s doubleheader. Afterward, he said he felt pain in his throwing shoulder.
Bonderman missed most of last season and the first two months this year while recovering from surgery to correct a blood vessel restriction in his shoulder. He was examined by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., on Friday and an MRI and arthrogram showed no structural damage. Andrews recommended Bonderman not throw until the pain is gone.
League parks that began Friday night against the Pirates. The rookie is 0-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 23 games with Detroit.
