ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -The Los Angeles Angels optioned Brandon Wood to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday to make room for Chone Figgins, who will be activated from the disabled list Friday.
Figgins has been on the DL twice this season because of a strained right hamstring. The 30-year-old infielder, who originally was injured while sliding into home plate on May 3, is hitting .306, with seven RBIs and a team-high 11 steals in 33 games this year.
The 23-year-old Wood is hitting .125 with one home run and two RBIs in 29 appearances with Los Angeles this season.
The Angels are off Thursday and open a three-game interleague series at home against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
