ATLANTA (AP) -Pittsburgh pitcher Charlie Morton, called up to face his former team, lasted only one inning against the Braves before tightness in his right hamstring knocked him out of the game.
Morton got through the first, allowing just one hit, but he headed straight to clubhouse after the inning. The Pirates said he noticed the problem before the game and tried to pitch through it, but decided not to risk a more serious injury.
Morton was one of three prospects traded by the Braves last week for All-Star center fielder Nate McLouth. The right-hander was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis after starter Jeff Karstens had to pitch in relief during Monday’s 15-inning game.
Karstens was moved to the bullpen and came in to replace Morton.
