CINCINNATI (AP) -The Reds put infielder-outfielder Jerry Hairston on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a broken thumb and also will be minus reliever Gary Majewski for a few days while his wife has a baby.
Cincinnati selected the contract of infielder-outfielder Jolbert Cabrera from Triple-A Louisville and recalled rookie pitcher Danny Herrera from the same club.
Hairston hurt his left thumb in Monday night’s 9-4 win at Florida. He led off the game with a single, injured himself stealing second, then stole third and scored on Ken Griffey Jr.’s 600th career home run.
Hairston left after the half-inning ended and the Reds said he could be out two to four weeks. He is hitting .336 with one home run and 14 RBIs.
Majewski was placed on the bereavement list so he could join his wife for the birth of their baby. The right-handed reliever is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in three games.
The 35-year-old Cabrera signed a minor league contract before spring training. He hit .288 with four home runs and 30 RBIs for Louisville. His last major league appearance was in 2004 with Seattle.
Herrera made his major league debut last week, pitching a scoreless inning and striking out two against Philadelphia. The lefty is 0-2 with three saves and a 2.38 ERA at Louisville.
