NEW YORK (AP) -Moises Alou was activated from the disabled list by the New York Mets and penciled into the starting lineup Tuesday night against Arizona.
Utility man and pinch-hitting specialist Marlon Anderson also was reinstated by the Mets, who finally put right fielder Ryan Church on the 15-day DL – three weeks after he sustained his second concussion in less than three months.
Alou, who had been sidelined since May 22 with a strained left calf, was set to play left field and bat sixth against the NL West-leading Diamondbacks.
Anderson, who had been out since May 24 with a left hamstring injury, was available off the bench.
The Mets also designated catcher Raul Casanova for assignment for the second time this season and signed outfielder John Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
The team has 10 days to trade, release or send Casanova to the minors. Rodriguez, who was assigned to Triple-A New Orleans, batted .301 in 102 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006.
