CHICAGO (AP) -Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones, leading the major leagues in hitting at .420, was out of the lineup for a second straight game Tuesday because of a small tear in his right quadriceps.
The Braves opened a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.
“I’m hoping maybe (to) be back in there tomorrow,” Jones said.
“It’s better. I still can’t run the way I need to. I wouldn’t be able to run the bases. I don’t know what kind of range I would have out at third base,” he said.
Jones said it’s too early to start paying too much attention to his lofty batting average.
“We get into mid-August and September and somebody is hitting .400, that’s when you can start talking about it, when you can start following them,” he said. “A lot more baseball to play before we get to that point.”
