MIAMI (AP) -Tampa Bay catcher Dioner Navarro was released from a hospital early Saturday morning after he was hit in the throat by an errant pitch, the team said.
A sixth-inning pitch from Brian Stokes landed short of the plate and bounced under Navarro’s mask during Friday’s game against the Marlins. The catcher dropped to the ground in pain, holding his neck.
Navarro left the game strapped to a backboard and is doing fine, Devil Rays spokesman Jason Latimer said Saturday. The Marlins beat the Devil Rays 14-8.
Raul Casanova replaced Navarro. It was not immediately clear when Navarro would return.
