PHOENIX (AP) -The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned struggling right-hander Brandon Medders to Triple-A Tucson on Friday.
Arizona recalled right-hander Jailen Peguero from Tucson in a corresponding move.
Medders, a long reliever, was 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA in 23 appearances.
Manager Bob Melvin said the 27-year-old Medders remains part of the Diamondbacks’ plans but needs to rebuild his confidence.
“This is a guy we really need to get right,” Melvin said. “We need to be able to rotate him in there.”
Peguero, a 26-year-old from the Dominican Republic, has not pitched in the majors. He was 3-2 with a 1.69 ERA and two saves in 26 relief appearances for Tucson.
