 OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Right-hander Jay Witasick was released Thursday by the Oakland Athletics, four days after he was designated for assignment.
Witasick, limited to 20 games and 22 2-3 innings last year because of an ankle injury, was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 16 games and 15 innings this season. He hadn't pitched since May 29, and had surrendered two runs in his previous five outings - allowing all three of inherited runners to score.
Witasick is 32-41 with a 4.59 ERA in 385 appearances over 12 major league seasons.
