SAN DIEGO (AP) -The New York Mets purchased infielder Abraham Nunez’s contract from Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday and optioned outfielder Nick Evans back to Double-A Binghamton.
Nunez, signed as a minor league free agent on May 19, hit .133 in 45 at-bats with New Orleans. He scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Evans batted .174 in nine games after making his major league debut on May 24 by going 3-for-4 with three doubles at Colorado. Evans drove in two runs and scored two, filling a hole in New York’s injury-depleted outfield.
Mets manager Willie Randolph said left fielder Moises Alou will not come off the 15-day disabled list on Friday when he is eligible.
Randolph said Alou likely will be activated Tuesday when the Mets return home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks at the start of a six-game homestand. Alou went on the DL on May 16 with a strained left calf.
The oft-injured Alou initially was placed on the disabled list March 23 in spring training because of hernia surgery. He was activated May 2 and is hitting .340 with seven RBIs in 14 games.
