ATLANTA (AP) -The Florida Marlins recalled catcher Paul Hoover from Triple-A Albuquerque before Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
Hoover fills the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Taylor Tankersley, who was optioned to Albuquerque after Tuesday night’s game.
The Marlins had 13 pitchers before the move, limiting Tankersley’s opportunities. Tankersley was 0-1 with a 7.16 ERA in 21 games.
“We need for him to pitch,” Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said Wednesday.
Hoover appeared in two games with Florida early this season, going 3-for-7, before he was sent to Albuquerque on April 10.
Hoover will be the team’s third catcher, behind Matt Treanor and Mike Rabelo.
