MILWAUKEE (AP) -Brewers reliever David Riske is scheduled to have elbow surgery, and could miss the rest of the season.
The team says it’s not clear whether the right-hander will need full reconstructive repair that would sideline him for up to a year. The extent of the damage won’t be known until the doctor begins surgery on Tuesday.
Riske was expected to be a key player and potential closer when he signed a $13 million, three-year deal with the Brewers before the 2008 season.
In his first season, he went 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA in 45 appearances before needing surgery in September to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.
He’s made just one appearance this season, giving two runs before going on the disabled list on April 16 with a tight elbow.
