ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals recalled reliever Mark Worrell from Triple-A Memphis and optioned Kelvin Jimenez to their top farm club before Sunday’s game with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It’s the 25-year-old Worrell’s first time on the big league roster. He is not related to former Cardinals closer Todd Worrell.
Mark Worrell was 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 21 games with Memphis. The right-hander also struck out 38 in 24 innings.
Worrell was expected to arrive in St. Louis from Albuquerque, N.M., sometime during the game against the Pirates.
Jimenez had no record and an 8.53 ERA in four appearances with the Cardinals. The right-hander was roughed up in Saturday’s 14-4 loss to the Pirates, allowing five runs and six hits over 3 1-3 innings in relief of starter Mike Parisi.
