 CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Cubs placed backup catcher Henry Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with a herniated disc in his neck on Friday.
Blanco, batting .194 in 14 games, said he woke up with a sore neck a few weeks ago and had it examined on Thursday.
``They gave me a shot and hopefully, it'll bring the swelling down a little bit,'' he said. ``If it doesn't work, the next step should be surgery.''
The move is retroactive to Thursday. The Cubs called up catcher Koyie Hill from Triple-A Iowa to replace Blanco.
