OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Oakland Athletics left-hander Sean Doolittle was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 28, with a strained left shoulder before Saturday’s game with the New York Yankees.
The A’s recalled right-hander Angel Castro from Triple-A Nashville.
Doolittle opened the season on the disabled list after missing spring training with a strained left rotator cuff. A’s manager Bob Melvin said the latest injury is in a different part of the shoulder.
Doolittle began his rehab assignment on May 14 and was reinstated from the DL on Tuesday. He appeared in one game with the A’s, tossing a scoreless sixth inning and allowing one hit while striking out two.
Castro is making his second stint with the A’s. He did not allow a run in three of his four relief appearances with Oakland, but allowed six hits in three innings.
