MILWAUKEE (AP) -Reds first baseman Joey Votto has left Cincinnati’s game with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The team didn’t announce why Votto left, but he has recently been bothered by an inner ear infection and the flu. In the last 18 games, he’s missed 12 starts and has left games early three times.
Votto says the ear infection has caused dizzy spells that repeatedly force him out of action.
In Friday night’s game, Votto popped out to short left field in the first inning and played defense in the bottom half of the inning.
He didn’t bat in the second inning and was gone when the Reds returned to the field. Votto was replaced in the lineup by catcher Ryan Hanigan. Ramon Hernandez moved from behind the plate to first base.
