NEW YORK (AP) -Mets outfielder Ryan Church returned to Shea Stadium on Thursday, still uncertain when he’ll rejoin the lineup following his second concussion this year.
Feeling dizzy, Church was sent home Tuesday and told to avoid bright lights.
“We’re just in a holding pattern,” Church said before Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Church was hurt May 20 trying to break up a game-ending double play at Atlanta. He has not started since then, but has pinch-hit four times. He’s had an MRI exam and CT scan since the injury.
“I spoke to him and he’s going to take it real light,” New York manager Willie Randolph said.
Church said he hoped to do some running and take fly balls in practice Friday.
“The way I feel now, I’m progressing,” he said.
Acquired in an offseason trade with Washington, Church has been one of the Mets’ most productive players, batting .309 with nine home runs and 32 RBIs. The right fielder is tied for second in the NL with five outfield assists.
Church also sustained a concussion March 1 in an exhibition game when he collided with teammate Marlon Anderson.
