ST. LOUIS (AP) -St. Louis Cardinals leadoff hitter David Eckstein was a late lineup scratch for Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals due to tightness in his back.
So Taguchi replaced Eckstein in the batting order, Aaron Miles moved from second base to shortstop and Adam Kennedy was inserted in the lineup at second base and batting eighth. The team said Eckstein, who had three hits Saturday night, was available off the bench.
Eckstein was batting .277 with one homer and nine RBIs.
