NEW YORK (AP) – The Mets are going to a six-man starting rotation to cut innings for Matt Harvey, NL Rookie of the Year Jacob DeGrom and rookie Noah Syndergaard.
New York manager Terry Collins says the trio didn’t like the alternatives: cutting their starts short after five innings, taking turns going on the disabled list or cutting their seasons short in September.
So Dillon Gee will go back in the rotation when he comes off the DL in a week or so, joining a starting staff that includes Bartolo Colon and Jonathon Niese.
