PHOENIX (AP) -San Diego catcher Nick Hundley and manager Bud Black were ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning of the Padres’ game at Arizona on Monday.
Umpire Eric Cooper tossed both after he ruled Hundley wasn’t touching the plate when he caught a throw from first baseman Adrian Gonzalez with the bases loaded. After the play at home, Hundley threw to first to complete what the Padres believed was an inning-ending double play.
Hundley was the first to go, then Black was thrown out after a nose-to-nose argument with the umpire. The run that crossed the plate put Arizona ahead 7-1.
Television replays of the disputed play were inconclusive.
