ST. LOUIS (AP) -Pittsburgh Pirates starter Tom Gorzelanny bruised his left thumb deflecting a drive up the middle in the sixth inning Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gorzelanny was removed from the game, but the team said X-rays were negative. It is unlikely the left-hander will miss his turn in the rotation.
Gorzelanny was struck on his 118th pitch, which resulted in an infield hit by the Cardinals’ Aaron Miles to load the bases with one out in the sixth.
