ST. LOUIS (AP) -Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano will be on an 85-90 pitch limit when he comes off the 15-day disabled list Friday and starts at San Diego.
Zambrano, 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA, has been sidelined since he strained his left hamstring running out a bunt single against the Marlins in Chicago on May 3. He’s scheduled to oppose Jake Peavy, who turned down a trade to the White Sox on Thursday when he refused to waive a no-trade clause.
Manager Lou Piniella said Thursday the Cubs hope to get five or six innings from Zambrano, who had a side session earlier this week in St. Louis.
