PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed right-handed reliever Steven Jackson off waivers on Monday and assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Jackson had one save and a 1.88 ERA in seven appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before being designated for assignment on May 8. The Yankees had 10 days to waive, release or trade him.
Jackson is the second former Yankees farmhand picked up by the Pirates in three days.
On Saturday, they acquired Eric Hacker for Romulo Sanchez in a trade of minor league relievers. Hacker was also designated for assignment by the Yankees.
To make room for Jackson on their 40-man roster, the Pirates released left-hander Jimmy Barthmaier, who recently had reconstructive elbow surgery.
