KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Royals optioned right-hander Brian Bannister to Class AAA Omaha and activated Luke Hudson, who started Thursday against Oakland.
Hudson had been on the disabled list with a sore shoulder. He was 0-2 with a 4.41 ERA in four minor league rehab starts with Omaha and Class AA Wichita.
Bannister was acquired in a December trade with the New York Mets for Ambiorix Burgos. He was 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA in three starts with Kansas City.
The Royals also traded Omaha first baseman Graham Koonce to the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named. He hit .243 with four home runs and 14 RBIs for the Braves’ Pacific Coast League club.
Koonce appeared in seven spring training games with Kansas City as a non-roster invitee. He hit .125 in six games in 2003 with Oakland in his only big league action.
